JEWELLERY CLEANING 101

Jewellery Cleaning 101

Spring Clean Your Jewellery

When it comes to keeping your jewellery sparkling, less is more! We never recommend using harsh jewellery cleaning solutions—many contain chemicals that can strip away finishes, damage gemstones, or cause long-term wear.

How to clean your precious pieces:

Gold & Silver: A simple soak in warm water, baking soda + a drop of mild soap = instant shine. The dirt is uplifted and easily removed from the piece. Dry well and polish with a jewellery cleaning cloth...or any soft cloth and brush you might have at home.

Gemstones: A gentle wipe with a soft cloth keeps them looking their best. For a deeper clean, follow the same steps above.

Storage Tip: Keeping jewellery in soft pouches prevents scratches & tarnishing. Make sure your jewellery is always kept in air-tight zipped baggie or container to prevent it from oxidizing.

Daily Jewellery Care: Do’s & Don’ts:

DO:

  • Put jewellery on last – Apply lotions, perfumes, and hairspray before wearing your pieces.
  • Wipe jewellery after wear – A soft cloth removes oils and keeps pieces looking fresh.
  • Store properly – Keep jewellery in a soft pouch or anti-tarnish box to prevent scratches.
  • Rotate your pieces – Give certain items a break to avoid excessive wear.
  • Remove before sleeping – Prevent tangles, bending, or unnecessary stress on delicate chains.

DON’T:

  • Don’t wear in water – Remove jewellery before showering, swimming, or washing hands to avoid tarnishing.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals – Perfumes, cleaning products, and even sweat can dull finishes over time.
  • Don’t use commercial cleaners – Many solutions contain chemicals that can damage gemstones and metals.
  • Avoid rough handling – Be mindful when stacking rings or layering chains to prevent tangling or scratching.
  • Don’t toss jewellery in a drawer – This can cause tangling, scratches, or even breakage.

A little TLC goes a long way in keeping your jewellery shining for years to come!
